It’s been revealed that one our key village access routes will need to be closed for MORE roadworks – despite already having been shut to traffic for over THREE MONTHS at the end of last summer!
After it was first postponed on FOUR occasions the Nottinghamshire County Council Highways work on Flawforth Lane finally began on September the 18th 2017 but then over-ran by FIVE weeks until the 30th November 2017. NOW it seems even THAT wasn’t enough…
A NEW notice (below) and updated information on roadworks.org states that ANOTHER three week closure will now be needed from this Monday for “completion of new drainage works”.
Flawforth Lane will again be shut for around 200 metres from the Flawford Churchyard corner up to the Wheatcroft roundabout to allow Breheny Civil Engineering to complete the installation of a stormwater outfall along Flawforth Lane and an outfall into the drainage ditch. This is needed due to the expected extra run-off from the new Bovis Homes development in former green fields to the north of the roundabout. However, THIS time it seems only traffic LEAVING our village won’t be able to get access – whereas inbound traffic from the roundabout will.
Although this country lane is not officially a major route out of Ruddington it is a popular shortcut for both village residents and commuters, particularly at peak times, so the extra three week closure will again cause inconvenience and delays for drivers forced around the diversionary route. Motorists who would normally go that way from the Loughborough Road/Kirk Lane traffic lights to the roundabout will instead be diverted along the A60, via The Nottingham Knight roundabout, onto the A52 instead. However cyclists, those on foot and emergency services will still be allowed through in both directions.
No bus routes have been directly affected by this diversion – but delays to peak time services using Loughborough Road are possible.
